Jump Rope

On Thursday our whole school went to GI centre to skip. We had to bring money for a charity for heart foundation. So we walked down, after  minutes later we arrived there. We had to sit with our class. Mr said

“That you are not allowed to go to your parents or to any other relations unless there at the back of you or close”.

Once everything got set up Mr. Naidoo talked to us about skipping and moving. Once he finished he told the classes from 1-12 to come and put their money in the bucket, we raised 140 something. Then Mr. gave the microphone to our mc britney.

She told room 1 to come up and do their performance. They were so great at it. So then she called up our class, everyone in our class were nervous and didn't want to do our performance. Once we saw our parents they came to me and said

“ Did you guys finish skipping”. I replied “ Yes we did”.

I liked room 12s routine because I liked their moves and the pick of the song. It was a very fun performance to watch and learn some moves. It was quite entertaining the audience and parents.

My favourite part was the end because my aunty and uncle came up to skip. It was funny  cause my uncle tried to be the longest at skipping. He always stops but, he kept on skipping. It was very funny. He made me and most of my friends laugh.

When we came back to school I had no lunch to eat so I asked Tyreece if I could have some of his lunch. He gave me his packet of chips to eat. When I nearly finished the chips some of the chips just fell to the ground. Mr. asked me

“What was wrong with me”. I replied “ I think i’m tired”.

I said quite to myself that “I should've stayed home”.

A Trip To Tiritiri Matangi Island

Early hours in the morning I had to wake up early to go on the trip to Tiritiri Matangi Island. Every one that went had to bring the following things:
  • A water bottle
  • Their Kids Can rain coat
  • A closed pair of walking shoes - no jandals/sandals. Ensure the shoe sole is clean the day before. ( This is a requirement to enter the island ).

We had to get their before 7:15 or else we stay at school. When I walked to school I saw every one that was going was wearing their jackets and hats, so I went and did the same thing that they did.

It was cool because we had provided lunch and morning tea. Mrs Ramklowan and some of students made the sandwiches the day before the trip. We are very thankful for the sandwiches that they made.

On our way to go to the ferry we saw Dontay. Dontay came late, but still made the trip. The teachers had no seat so they had to stand up and hold on to the rails. It was only one bus that took all of us that went. Once we got to the ferry we had to wait 1 hour until the ferry came, so we went for a walk around and came back at the right time.

Once the ferry moved we all had a chance at going to the front, back and the top. I like being at the back of the ferry. On our way near to Tiritiri Matangi Island Munokoa’s hat fell in the sea . Every one were mostly in the front. The people that were in the front got soaked.

When we got there we had to clean our shoes on this scrubber. Barbara was telling us instructions and to go to the lighthouse for lunch. We got divided into groups with the teachers. We had Irene for our morning walk. It was fun learning about the trees and the birds. It was interesting and I was learning some facts from what Irene said.

The birds we saw the most was the Tui’s and the Bell Bird. On our way we saw a sign that said “ There is going to be a treasure hunt and leave for the kids to find”. Irene let everyone in our group to have a turn to find the puppets.

We had a nice day at Tiritiri Matangi Island. If I could go there again I would, to learn about the other birds. You can learn a lot of facts from there. If you haven’t been there then you should go there and have some experience to see what it feels like hearing no dogs. It is nice and peaceful there, hope you go there.

Positive Digital Footprint

We have been learning how to leave a positive digital footprint. We know we a doing this because leaving good, quality comments. Here is the comment I have left.  It is positive, thoughtful and helpful. You could tell the person a question.

Mussel Time

Three students in Oranga Primary school are about to cook up a feast. The three boys names are longosai, Filimone and Painga. As the three boys come to new Zealand their teacher lets them make their favourite meal.

The ingredients they use is onions, two cans of coconut cream and tomatoes. The mussels are placed in the pot with the coconut cream, onions and tomatoes. Longosai stirs everything up and all the juice gets trapped in the mussels. The boys say “ It smells delicious “.

When the boys finish cooking it they eat it and say “ That they are proud of themselves ".

Seagulls

The Seagulls outside of the shops were fighting over for the fish. They are brothers and sisters, Tim wet over and got it first but Tam rushed as fast as she can but she was too late because Tim already got it . Tim was laughing cause he took the fish first, he was  over excited that he dropped the fish back in the water.

Tam was very angry that he wanted to make him catch another fish for her. So then he went on trying to get one, but all of a sudden he almost catched one but it ran away. Tim got growled at all the time. He was are very unhappy boy so he stood up and went to the beach to catch some fish for the second time.

Once he caught a fish he was full of joy so he went to find his sister Tam to tell her that he caught a fish for her. Once she saw it she was thankful for him so that day he went down to the beach to catch some more fish to share with the family. When they go to  beaches Tim is going to show all of them how to catch fish again. When he told all of them how to fish then all of them went every day to catch fish.

Backyard Guards

I have been reading about Backyard Guards and rewriting it in my words.

Backyards have a lot of creatures living at the back. Lizards slithers under withered leaves that lie in piles in the eaves. You know that there is a bunch of animals living at the back of your yard, they can either help the soil and trees or they can damage your stuff that you've planted.

There are all sorts of animals that you see in your yard, such as cicadas, hedgehogs, cats, dogs, rat, birds and worms. Worms are so good that they help your plants grow and give them rich soil. Rats can eat all of your food that you forgot to wrap up. Rats can get into stuff that you forget to close after you open.

So now that you know what to do you can keep your backyard nice and clean.

Germs

Germs:

1. What are germs ?
Germs are tiny organism or living thing that
causes disease. The germ theory of disease
states that some disease are caused by micro organism.

2. Do you get good germs ?
In our body we get good germs and bad germs,
when we come from outside we need to wash
our hands. But you have to still wash your hands
after you've touched something dirty.

3.  What do good germs do ?
Good germs keep the pathogens at bay. Do yourself
a favour and stay away from antibacterial
soaps and hand sanitizers. These products actually
kill good bacteria that's taking up space on your skin,
keeping the pathogens at bay. Some germs help digestive
food.

4. What do bad germs do ?
They either help you or hurt you. Bad bacteria loves it when
our community is unhygienic or dirty. Bad germs can make
you sick and the people around too. They cause lots of disease
from cold sores and warts to measles, colds and flu. They can
be very contagious - they spread very quickly from one person
to another.  They can even spread in the air, in droplets that
form when people cough or sneeze or from surfaces like door
handles.

Droughts

Drought
ByAdrieene Frater
Miri just got told that she has to do a writing about drought. She didn't want to do it. She was so lazy she didn't want to do any work. She was lying down as if she was a dead fish in the desert.

Pete was thinking that this will be hard, so he was so concentrated on his work. He wanted to do more and focus more. Because if he did he will learn more.

When it came to having dinner Miri’s dad did not want to eat. It looked like he was worried about something. I think he was worried about Miri.

Playing Cards

Playing Cards 12 June 2013

Introduction:

At Glen Innes School, the children in the senior classes are playing cards. They play them during the morning tea and lunch breaks. The children have devised unique rules to play the cards. The cards end up in the gutter, and they love it!

The challenge:
They meet up and tell them if they want to play.
They see how much they want to challenge.
They pick a gutter that they call a hole.
Then they start the game.

The game ( rules ):
The first person who says last then they go last.
No dragging.
Straight aims.
No double touch.
tap, straight aims
double hit.
No cheating.
No backs and sides, means you have to not go back or side

The winner:
You become the winner when you get all the cards in the hole.
When you win you get to keep the cards that you just won.
Then you can go and vs someone else and see if you can win.

You sometimes get good luck and bad luck.
