Measurement Activites

Measurements. If you’re wondering how to find the correct measurement for length and weight, try exploring this activity to learn about it. During the beginning of the game there will be a ruler for you to investigate the length of the parcel. You’ll then click scales, located on the top-right corner to find the weight. After gathering the two measurements you have to look for the right measurement on a table. When you have finished submitting your answer a pop-up will appear telling you, whether your answer is wrong or not. If you're struggling with length and weight measurements, feel free to click the link.

Lemon Cup-Cakes

Image result for lemon cupcakes
On the 12 of April 2016, our teacher, Mrs Tu’akoi had started the day by saying “Good morning class, today we’re going to bake some lemon cupcakes”. As soon as those words rushed through my ears I was the happiest person on Earth. My face lightened up and I was so determined to stay alert to our teacher’s instructions. Firstly, we had to form a line and headed to our school’s hall.

When I entered through the two doors I was amazed by the preparation that Ms Lammas had done for Rooms 7 and 8. When the amazement of the preparation had drifted away everyone went quiet and settled into their seats. As Ms Lammas took over she told us what to do step by step. First, we had to write our name onto our own cupcake holder. Then we had to write down the ingredients which is:
  1. 1 ¼  cup of sugar
  2. Rind 2 lemons
  3. 1c Lemon yogurt cupcake
  4. 2 eggs
  5. 1 cup of oil
  6. ½ tbs of salt
  7. 1 cup of yogurt
  8. 2-3 tbs of lemon juice
  9. 2 cups of self raising flour

Method:

  1. Grate the rind of the 2 lemons in a bowl
  2. Add the ¼ cup of sugar into the bowl
  3. Crack the two eggs into the bowl
  4. As well as pouring 1 cup of oil into the bowl
  5. The whisk it quickly until its combine
  6. Then add ½ a tsp of salt
  7. Add 1 cup of yogurt
  8. Then add the 3 tbs of lemon juice
  9. Then mix until combine
  10. For the last ingredient into the bowl which is 2 cups of self raising flour
  11. Then mix for one last time, but until it's all combined.
While Ms Lammas was doing the demonstration we watched very carefully. When it was our turn to do it, I was overwhelmed with the level of concentration from every single person in the hall. Then our cupcakes was ready to go in the oven and Mrs. Lammas kindly took care of that part.

Our class including Mrs Tu’akoi had been dismissed back to Room 7. While we were waiting for our cupcakes, we got told to finish off our incomplete work. The  whole class was patient for 10-20 minutes waiting for our cupcakes to be ready. I was extremely excited to hold the cupcakes in my hands.

Once I saw our class door open I sat quietly and waited for my cupcake to be handed out to me. As my cupcake stared me straight into my eyes, I could smell the elegant mixtures. The center seemed moist and delicate. I wanted to taste the scrumptious flavours, but wanted to save some at the same time.

I couldn’t resist saving it, so I plucked pieces of bit by bit. As I was enjoying myself I could taste the sensational flavours inside it. When I demolished the entire cupcake I was craving for more. I just want to thank Ms Lammas and Mrs Tu’akoi for preparing the day of experimenting and tasting. I hope another day like that, will occur sometime soon.

Equivalent Fractions Bingo

On the 13 of May I tried an activity called Equivalent Fractions Bingo. This game is bingo but the questions you have to answer are equivalent fraction. This game was very easy for me because I knew my fractions. As you can see above I got 4 correct, and my percentage I got out of all my attempts was 100% correct. If you’re willing to practice fractions, click here.

Number Conundrum Decimals

On an ordinary day I played an activity/game named Number Conundrum Decimals. This activity is all about adding and subtracting decimals. Some of the spaces are blank, therefor you have to solve the ones that are given to and the unknown. This game was very easy for me. If you click check it’ll check your answers. If it turns out to be red then it’s wrong but if it’s green then it’s correct. If you’re learning or want to learn about adding and subtracting decimals click here.

Triplets

Triplets is the name of this game. This game is all about equivalent fractions. Therefore if you know how to simplify this game will be quite easy for you. Triplets was very easy for me because I knew how to simplify, but the only thing that held me back was, I wasn’t fast to group the fractions into their pack. I managed to finish though and got them all into their groups. If you’re not that good with simplifying or you want to learn click here.

On the 1st  of April 2016 I had played an activity that had to do with math. The activity contained fractions and decimals. Some of the sums had to do with number line, and others had graphs. It was quite simple. My target was to try and get through it quickly. I failed to do so but at least I understand what the activity is about.

Who can do the Math?

who can do math number 7.PNG7 math.PNG
Before reading the whole story I jumped straight to conclusions. I didn't take notice about the diameter and immediately compared the inch and the money. My thinking:
  • 4 inch = $5.00
  • 2x 4inch = $10.00
  • 8 inch = $12.00
So I thought that Jake had the better deal.

Drag Race

Just before lunch I played a math game called Drag Race. It’s a game that really helps with your division and multiplication. It was easy but I got one wrong because I was going fast and I accidently pressed the wrong number. If you want to play this game all you need to know is your multiplication and division. Main Idea Millionaire

Main Idea Millionaire is based upon a reading activity. The main idea of this game is to find the sentence that doesn’t belong in the story. I’ve attempted this several times and failed. But I didn’t give up until I finally reached $1,000,000. The questions they give you in this story can be tricky unless you re-read the sentences multiple times or read it properly. If you think you could ace this, here’s the link.

Flip A Chip

For reading today I played a useful game named FLIP A CHIP. This a great game to improve in your reading skills. As you can see I got them all right, but I struggled though. When I reached exercise 3, 4, 5 and 6 it got harder for me, so I got some help from google. The person who made this game used heaps of expensive words that I couldn’t even understand. This really helps with your comprehension. If you’re keen to try this, click here.

Prototec

For basic facts we went on a site called Basic Facts Maths Practice 1.8. There’s levels from 2-8 and I started off with stage 8. To play this game you have to know fraction size, place value, percentages, fractions, decimals, HCF and LCM. This game was hard at first until I attempted it multiple times. It got easier as I went but I’m still aiming to get 100%.

Order Of Operation

During maths time Room 7 got an opportunity to play this useful game. It helped us revise some of our skills that we had forgotten over the holidays. My first attempt at this game I got 11. Then 16, I struggled my way through this that's why it was quite a challenge for me. I strongly recommend you playing this game if you wanted to learn more of 'Order Of Operation', if so click here to experience this helpful game.
